Events: Taste of The South

I spent four years in South Carolina, eating, drinking, and occasionally going to class.  So when I heard about about plans for a Taste of The South event, celebrating the food and spirits from below the Mason Dixon line, I knew Bored and Thirsty had to get involved.

In a time where everyone is elevating their taste in what they put in their mouth, ‘Southern’ style cuisine can often get a bad rap.  The commonly held misconception that anything labeled southern is going to be heavy, fried, and likely to include no redeeming nutritive value whatsoever, steers the health conscious away from such menu options.  And to be honest, thats just fine with me.

Every once in a while we need a little wrong in our lives, and I don’t want some judgmental blowhard shaking their head at me when I’m trying to get my Mac ‘n Cheese on.  Plus, if you think there’s nothing adventurous or fun about ‘Southern’ food, I dare you to maintain that stance after reading the following menu;

Passed hors d’oeuvres

Hush puppies with paprika aioli
Catfish fritters with spicy mustard
Strip steak skewers with smoked scallion sauce
Fried chicken bites sausage gravy

Stations

Pulled pork sliders
Spiced crispy pork belly buns with slaw
Mac and cheese
Bacon Potato salad
Corn bread with jalepeno butter

To help wash down all that deliciousness, we are happy to join forces with Jack Daniels Brand Ambassador Tony Makayev, who will be providing craft Cocktails by Mark Drew of Mothers Ruin, Gentleman Jack punch, as well as a carbonated Whiskey Negroni, made with Old #7.

Tony will be around all night to discuss and taste Jack Daniels Single Barrel.  I’m told he will even be sharing some….

In additon there will be plenty of amazing prizes auctioned off, including an autographed bottle, signed by one of Jack Daniels’ Master Distillers.  Guests will also have an opportunity to learn more about the “Buy Your Own Barrel” program, which sounds like an opportunity I will be taking.

You will not find a better source to learn and experience Tennessee whiskey than Tony, and with the bad ass menu of Southern Style foods with a twist only the good folks at Underground Eats can provide, this promises to be our best event yet!

For one night, Bored and Thirsty invites you to put down the wheatgrass and vegan soba noodles, and come enjoy a truly unforgettable night of food and drinks, designed by people who love what they do, and how they do it.
